Built to handle even the toughest of jobs, the Mahindra Pik Up Double Cab proves time and again that it's a true workhorse. But Mahindra isn't content to let the Pik Up be known solely as a reliable tool for work. They've been expanding the range and packing in more features, making it clear that they have their sights set on a new market - the leisure and family segments. Whether you're hauling gear for a weekend camping trip or carting the kids to soccer practice, the Mahindra Pik Up is up for the task, all while being offered at an affordable price point.
Mahindra offers the Pik Up DC in four varieties – S6, S8, S10, and S11 – each propelled by a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder turbodiesel engine creating 103 kW and 320 Nm of torque. Each variant offers a choice between 2WD and 4WD, with a manual or auto gearbox. The Karoo edition models come with extra goodies. Depending on the variant, Mahindra claims a 1000kg maximum payload and 2500kg braked towing capacity.
Up front, the 2023 Pik Up DC welcomes you with a redesigned signature grille, integrated bonnet scoop, daytime running lights, and rugged new wrap-around bumpers. The interior welcomes you with a 7.0-inch touchscreen (for S10 and S11), air conditioner (manual for S6 & S8, and automatic for other variants), standard power windows, electric mirrors, cruise control, and central locking.
To enjoy the latest tech available for the Pik Up DC, you need to buy either S10 or S11 variant. They come equipped with a reverse camera, rain-sensing windscreen wipers, light-sensing headlamps, as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration.
The new pickup truck from Mahindra comes with basic safety features such as an anti-lock braking system with electronic brake distribution, seatbelt pre-tensioners, two airbags (driver and front passenger), side impact protection bars, Isofix child seat attachments, seat belt reminder, auto-locking doors, etc.
The S11 Karoo is the range-topper. It comes with additional goodies like a secure roller shutter tonneau cover, rubberised bin, differentiated Karoo branding, updated roll and nudge bars, and unique black alloys. Besides, it receives all the equipment Mahindra has to offer for the Pik Up, including automatic climate control, cruise control, a colour display screen with navigation, a multi-function steering wheel, electric rear-view mirror tweaking, a heated rear windscreen, voice control, rain-sensing wipers, automatic on/off headlight control, and cornering lights.
The 2023 Mahindra Pik Up DC is a genuine bargain, packing a punch with its brand-new warranty and service plan, an impressive array of standard features, solid safety specifications, and overall versatility, all at a remarkably reasonable price.
The entry-level model starts at R389,999, while the top-of-the-line S11 4x4 Karoo goes for R525,999. All the models come with a 4-year/120,000 km warranty, a 5-year/90,000 km service plan, and 4-year/120,000 roadside assistance. (Prices correct at time of publication.)
The Mahindra Pik Up is the perfect daily driver for those looking for comfort and convenience at an affordable price. While maneuvering in tight spaces may require a bit more effort, the overall driving experience is enjoyable. For the price, it's hard to find another vehicle that offers the same level of value. The smooth ride and advanced safety features make it stand out among other budget pickups. Additionally, it's packed with valuable gadgets and thoughtful design elements. Furthermore, with its fuel-efficient engine, you won't have to worry about breaking the bank at the petrol station. The cabin space may not be generous, but it's more than enough for everyday needs.
