We’ve put together a list of our top five, but there are so many more to choose from. Fill up your car… it’s time for an adventure!

Cradle of Humankind, Maropeng

The Sterkfontein Caves and Cradle of Mankind are an absolute must see - they tell the story of our evolution dating back almost 3 million years. It’s also the area where archaeologists discovered MrsPles as well as many other fossils. Once you’re done exploring the cave, you can visit some of the wonderful restaurants as well as an exhibition centre.

La Provence D’Afrique, Magaliesburg

Just a short drive from Pretoria, this French-style establishment has everything you would want from an overnight roadtrip stop over. With luxury accommodation, a bistro that serves delicious food, and even a spa, La Provence D’Afrique is a place to remember.

The Magalies Meander

Even if you have nowhere specific in mind that you want to stop at, you’ll find many gemswhile exploring the Magalies Meander. There are all sorts of outdoor activities such as hot air ballooning and cable car trips, as well as delightful restaurants and farm stalls. If you have kiddies, this is definitely a road trip to consider.

Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve

If you’re in the Johannesburg area and don’t want to travel too far, the Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve is an excellent choice. There’s a huge array of flora and fauna, more than 200 species of birds, as well as cycle and hiking routes if that’s your thing.

Cullinan

This small, Victorian town has a lot to. From steam train rides to quirky coffee shops, Cullinan really is a wonderful little spot to take a road trip to, whether it’s for a day or overnight. Don’t forget to make a stop at the Cullinan Diamond Mine.
