2020 Audi A7 Sportback: Stylish, modern, comfortable and luxurious

The second-generation 2020 Audi A7 Sportback is a cross between the executive A6 and the A8 limousine featuring a sloped roofline and fastback-style tailgate. Rivaling the Mercedes-Benz CLS, this distinctive Audi stands at the top of Audi's sedan range thanks to its revolutionary design.

Let’s discuss in detail what makes the A7 the best offering for the R1-million-plus car buyers:

The 2020 Audi A7 comes with only one engine option in South Africa. However, later this year, customers might be able to buy the more powerful RS7. The executive sedan is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 turbo petrol mill that pairs with a seven-speed dual-clutch S Tronic transmission to deliver 250 kW and 500 Nm of torque. The multi-plate clutch-based all-wheel-drive system is standard. The engine gets assistance from the 48 V mild-hybrid technology, which deactivates at between 55 and 160 km/h. The mild hybrid system can regain up to 12 kW of power through the lithium-ion battery during braking. The powertrain is energetic and quiet, offering near-seamless propulsion.

The four-door coupé sedan can jump from 0 to 100km/h in 5.3 seconds and max out at 250km/h. Audi says it delivers a 7.1L/100 km fuel economy, but in real tests, it offered between 8.4- and 10.8L/100 km, which is not that efficient. However, for such a big luxury sedan, this is almost to be expected.

The front headlights have 12 separate strips that form a unique lighting signature while the HD Matrix LED headlights with laser lights are optional. Other standard features include a panoramic glass sunroof, electric rear spoiler, and LED rear combination lamps with dynamic light design and dynamic turn signals.

Step inside, and the A7 welcomes you with Audi’s first MMI touchscreen system as well as the dual-screen setup. You can use the bottom screen to manage climate control, seat heating, and so on. The top screen allows you to meddle with audio, vehicle settings, and apps. The Android Auto and Apple Carplay functionality is standard, and so is the wireless charging pad in the centre console. There is plenty of room for four inside with an ample headspace.

Audi offers different packages to choose from, such as the S line exterior package (R32,920), the S line Sports package (R3,360) and the Black styling package (R10,970)

Moreover, there is a big list of optional interior equipment to make your new Audi A7 Sportback classier and more upmarket. The optional extras include:

  • Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System with 3D sound (R96,610)
  • Dynamic all-wheel steering (R34,700)
  • 360-degree cameras (R12,210)
  • Adaptive air suspension (R36,330)
  • City assistance package (R23,430)
  • Park assist with parking aid plus (R6,990)
  • Adaptive cruise control with speed limiter, efficiency assist, swerve assist and turn assist (R27,930)

The 2021 Audi A7 Sportback starts at R 1,302,510 excluding optional extras, which isn’t cheap. However, what you get in return is genuinely outclass. Yes, we are talking about comfortable drive; effortless performance; spacious, luxurious, modern cabin; and not to forget its eye-catching and easily distinguishable design. What else could you wish for a million bucks?
