Chery Tiggo 7 Pro offers good value for money

Chery Motors South Africa has introduced its third offering in the shape of Tiggo 7 Pro which slots between Tiggo 4 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro. The C-Segment SUV impresses us with its highly advanced features, just like its other two siblings, all bundled at an affordable price of R409,900.

The 2022 Chery Tiggo 7 Pro is available in the Distinctive and Executive options. While both models are powered by a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo-petrol motor, generating 108 kW and 210 Nm of torque, they differ in specs. The engine mates to a very quiet nine-speed CVT transmission. Chery’s claimed 6.8L/100 km of fuel economy isn’t bad for a family car of this size.

The exterior appears muscular and relatively sporty, featuring a hexagon grille with “galaxy-inspired geometric matrix diamond” mesh, thin LED headlamps, and T-styled LED daytime running light and fog light cases. Other exterior highlights include a powered panoramic sunroof with a one-touch on/off function, flush aluminium roof rails, 10-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels, and heated exterior mirrors.

The interior looks upscale and modern. Like its big brother 8 Pro, the 7 Pro features three displays - a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, an 8-inch touchscreen climate control interface, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto support. The intelligent dual-zone air conditioning in the front and independent air conditioning in the back offers a clean, Nordic level of air quality.

The synthetic leather seats in the Executive variant are six-way powered for the driver and four-way powered for the passenger. The voice command enables you to operate climate control, electric windows, and the panoramic sunroof. Besides, pharmaceutical-grade air purification, wireless charging, and multi-colour ambient lighting are standard.

Chery’s T1X platform is carefully crafted to make its offerings not only spacious for passengers (both in front and in the back) but also for the luggage. The 475 litres of boot space with rear seats intact and 1500 litres with them folded makes it a highly practical family vehicle.

The family-friendly SUV has received a full five-star Chinese New Car Assessment Programme (C-NCAP) safety score, courtesy of its high-strength body and generous driver assistance systems. Both the models come equipped with ABS/EBD/BA, ESP, hill start assist, hill descent control, blind spot detection, and rear cross-traffic alert. As expected, the flagship Executive comes with extra safety goodies like lane departure warning, front collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, a 360-degree around-view monitor, and more airbags.

At a starting price of R409,900 for the Distinction and R444,900 for the range-topping Executive, the Tiggo 7 Pro is hard to beat in its segment. Besides, a five-year/60,000km service plan, five-year/unlimited-kilometre roadside assistance, a five-year/150,000km general mechanical warranty, and a comprehensive 10-year/1-million-kilometre engine warranty add more stars to this compact family car’s merits. (Prices correct at time of publication.)

The bold exterior design, high-end interior, ample cargo capacity, and advanced tech and safety features at a competitive price position the Cherry Tiggo 7 Pro at the top of the table in its class.
