We take a look at the bold 2022 Citroen C3 Aircross

First introduced in 2019, the French automaker has updated the 2022 Citroen C3 Aircross with a restyled exterior design and subtle interior upgrades. The small crossover is a perfect blend of spaciousness and modularity, offering a new touchscreen, four connectivity technologies, and state-of-the-art safety features.

The 2022 Citroen C3 Aircross is available in only two variants: Feel and Shine. Both the trim levels feature a 1.2L turbo 3-cylinder engine pumping out 81kW and 205 Nm of torque, mating to a six-speed automatic gearbox. Citroen says it can hit 100 km/h from a standstill in 10.7 seconds, thanks to its lightweight construction. The automaker also claims 6.5-litres per 100km fuel economy, which is good for a compact crossover.

The 2022 Citroen C3 Aircross boasts a bold design with a completely restyled front face, updated chrome-trimmed chevrons, stretching towards new LED Daytime Running lights. The new ‘double decker’ headlight design and a redesigned meshe grille stretch across the bumper. The revised LED fog lamps are more vivid, offering a better view in foggy conditions. Perhaps the most stylish design feature is the new grille with a geometric pattern and a new silver-grey skid plate with shaded inserts elevating the crossover’s toughness.

While the rear and side profiles do not deviate much from the previous design, we have new 16-inch wheel designs - in diamond cut or black - and five new colours. Buyers would be happy to pick from Pepper Red, Voltiac Blue, Polar White, Artense Grey and Platinum Grey. Moreover, they can have the roof in white or black as well as get coloured inserts on the door mirrors, front skid plate and quarter-light.

The Aircross is 4142mm long, 1756mm wide, and 1637mm tall, with a generous boot space of up to 1289 litres.

The interior changes are subtle. A new centre console features a large storage space that can be accessed easily by front and rear passengers. The 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system delivers better user-friendliness, clearness, and workability. The standard trim is a mix of grey cloth upholstery with a soft grey plastic dashboard. Other options include grey cloth upholstery with soft grey plastic dashboard and grey-green full leather upholstery with graphite faux leather strip on the dashboard.

The superior screen emphasises Citroen Connect Nav, and the Mirror Screen function, supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Citroen says the new C3 crossover is one of the safest crossovers on sale in South Africa, thanks to 12 in-built driving assistance features, offering safer and more accessible travel. Leading the safety credentials list is a colour head-up display giving you valuable details in your line of vision, in addition to speed sign recognition and recommendations, emergency brake assist, automatic headlights and a Driver Attention Alert. Other essential facilities include intelligent keyless entry, Park Assist, and more.

The 2022 Citroen C3 Aircross Feel starts at R399,900, while the range-topping Shine is R424,900. (Prices correct at time of publication.) Both Crossovers come with a five-year/100,000km warranty and a three-year/60,000km service plan.
