A car Service Plan helps you keep your vehicle on the road by making sure its recommended scheduled services are taken care of by approved dealers, making worrying about car servicing something from the past. The Service Plan, that comes standard with Free Roadside Assistance, offers you a convenient way of budgeting so that you can spend less time worrying about your car service and more time enjoying the open road.

What is a Service Plan?

A Service Plan pays for specified aspects of the recommended car service by an approved facility for a specific term or kilometres travelled, whichever comes first, (in the Republic of South Africa). Filters, spark plugs and lubricants are normally covered by our car servicing providers.

Car servicing can be expensive, but buying a Service Plan comes with the following benefits:

**OEM is the original equipment manufacturer of a new vehicle, who manufactures the original parts and components used during the construction of your vehicle. In certain countries, the OEM is often represented by an Importer of a specific brand of vehicle.

What is the difference between a Service Plan and a Maintenance Plan?

A Service Plan pays for specified aspects of the recommended services of your car by an approved facility for a specific term or kilometres travelled, whichever comes first, (in the Republic of South Africa). Filters, spark plugs and lubricants are normally covered by our Service Plan product partners and their car servicing providers. A Car Maintenance Plan pays for everything included in the Service Plan, plus the replacement, maintenance or repair of specific wear-and-tear parts, when necessary.

Additional benefits that comes with a Car Service Plan

When buying a Service Plan through MotorHappy, the chances are good that the plan will come standard with additional benefits such as Roadside Assistance. The Car Service Plan offered through MotorHappy includes free Roadside Assistance with benefits such as:

  • Towing

    If you experience a mechanical breakdown or electrical failure, which was not directly caused by a road accident and cannot be repaired on the spot, a Roadside Assistance agent will dispatch a roadside team to tow your vehicle to the nearest approved facility for repairs.

  • Car hire or Overnight accommodation

    In the event of a mechanical breakdown or electrical failure (and only once we authorise the towing of your vehicle to the nearest approved repairer), MotorHappy will contribute towards the cost of overnight accommodation or car hire you will require immediately after the tow.

  • Message relay

    In the event of a mechanical breakdown or electrical failure, we can send a message to a family member; friend or business associate on request.

  • Tyre change

    We will dispatch a contractor should you require assistance with a tyre change.

  • Fuel run

    If your vehicle runs out of fuel and you are stranded on the side of the road, we will dispatch a contractor with a canister of fuel for your vehicle so that you can reach the nearest petrol station and re-fuel your vehicle.

  • Jump-start

    If your vehicle has a flat battery, we will send a contractor to help you jump-start your vehicle.

  • Key lockout

    Should you accidentally lock your vehicle’s key in your vehicle, we will send out a locksmith to open your vehicle and retrieve your key.

What will the Service Plan Cover?

The car Service Plan is for vehicles that are less than 12 years old and have travelled less than 250 000 Km. Service Plans include the replacement of:

What does a Service Plan pay for?

A Service Plan pays for the cost of servicing your car in line with the manufacturer’s specified guidelines.

How can I buy a Service Plan?

You can buy a Service Plan in the following ways:

  • Full upfront payment - pay the full price by credit card or EFT
  • Monthly - pay on a monthly basis through debit order
How do I know if my car is eligible for a Service Plan?

You are eligible for a Service Plan if, at the date of purchase, your car:

  • has travelled less than 250 000 km; and
  • Is less than 12 years old (calculated from date of first registration).
When does my Service Plan start?

Your Service Plan starts at the start date, as stated in the owner’s plan summary. The plan month starts on the date you buy the plan or at the end of the existing or manufacturer plan, whichever comes first.

How long does the Service Plan run?

Your Service Plan is not a fixed-term plan. It runs for a specific term (e.g. 3 years) or kilometres travelled (e.g. 45 000 km), whichever comes first.

When can I take my car for its first service?

It depends on the method that you used to buy your plan:

  • Upfront (credit card & EFT) - Upon purchase, your plan is active and benefits will be available 30 days after payment has been received.
  • Monthly debit order - Upon purchase, your plan is active and benefits will be available after 4 successful consecutive monthly debit orders have been received. 

 The Roadside Assistance benefits will be available from your Service Plan start date.

When does my Service Plan end?

Your Service Plan will automatically end when one of the following happen:

  • You reach the prescribed kilometres or term as stipulated in your plan summary;
  • You fail to service your car within the manufacturer’s specified service interval for the second consecutive time; or
  • Your car is damaged beyond repair or destroyed before the expiry of the Service Plan.
Is it possible to cancel your Service Plan?

You can do this by giving us at least 20 business days’ notice is writing, or by contacting our Customer Care Centre at [email protected] or phoning us on 0861 642 779. You can also contact the Service Plan administrator directly. Full details of cancellation procedures are available in the Service Plan booklet provided when the plan is purchased.

How do I know when to service my car?

Manufacturers require that you service your car after a specific number of kilometres (e.g. every 15 000 km) or at specific time interval. Some manufacturers will require that your car be serviced at specific terms (e.g. 12 months from date of first registration) even if you have not driven the specified number of kilometres. Refer to your owner’s manual for requirements.

Is a Cambelt part of a service?

The Service Plan will include the replacement of a Cambelt or Accessory belt only if recommended by the manufacturer at a specific term. Tensioners and pulleys will only be replaced if specified by the manufacturer service schedule.

Does my Service Plan include Roadside Assistance?

Yes, Roadside Assistance is included with the purchase of a Service Plan through MotorHappy.

What happens to my Service Plan if I am in an accident?

If your car is involved in an accident, the Service Plan will continue to cover your car only if all resulting damage, whether mechanical, electrical, structural or body-related is repaired by an approved facility or an accredited panel beater. The Service Plan administrator reserves the right to suspend your Service Plan if the workmanship or parts used do not meet the specific quality standards of your car’s importer or manufacturer. If your car is damaged beyond repair or destroyed before the expiry of the Service Plan, you must notify us or the Service Plan administrator directly within 30 calendar days.
