Service Plans

Service Plans

The Service Plan offers you a convenient way of budgeting so that you can spend less time worrying about the cost of taking care of your car and more time enjoying the open road. Filters, spark plugs and lubricants are normally covered by our service providers.

The Service Plan pays for specified aspects of the recommended services of your car by an approved facility for a specific term or kilometers travelled, whichever comes first, in the Republic of South Africa. The Service Plan cannot be purchased together with a Maintenance Plan.

  • Has your manufacturer-supplied Service Plan expired?
  • Do you want your car to run smoothly?
  • Do you worry about the cost of servicing your car?
  • Do you want to know that your car is in good hands when being serviced?
  • Do you want to maximize the resale value of your car?

If you answered ‘YES’ to any of these questions, you need a Service Plan to help you get from A to B, confidently.

A Service Plan includes the replacement of:

Your car’s oil filter catches all kinds of dirt, sludge and contaminants from your car’s various oils (engine, transmission, lubricating or hydraulic oil). Dirty oil is thick, abrasive and potentially damaging to your car’s bigger components (e.g. the engine or gearbox).

Oil Filter
Spark Plugs

Your car’s spark plugs are small electrical gadgets which fit into your engine’s cylinder head where it “sparks” to ignite fuel and create combustion. The combustion provides the force that causes your engine to start and run the car.

Air Filter

Your car’s air filter protects your engine from potentially harmful dust and other particles which can cause unnecessary wear or blockages to your engine.

Cambelt (only included in selected plans)
Fuel Filter

Your car’s fuel filter ensures the smooth running of petrol or diesel to the engine by trapping grit and dirt, which can easily clog up your car’s fuel injectors. Blocked fuel filters can cause all sorts of problems – from power loss to pump and injector failure.

Brake pads (only available with the purchase of a Service Plan Plus)
Lubricants

Your Service Plan will run over a specific term (e.g. 3 years) or kilometres (e.g. 45 000 km)– whichever comes first.

The Service Plan pays for specified aspects of the recommended services of your car by an approved facility for a specific term or kilometres travelled, whichever comes first, in the Republic of South Africa.

A Maintenance Plan pays for everything included in the Service Plan, plus the replacement, maintenance or repair of specific wear-and-tear parts, when necessary.

You cannot buy a Service Plan and a Maintenance Plan together.

A Service Plan pays for the cost of servicing your car in line with the manufacturer’s specified guidelines.

You can buy a Service plan in 3 different ways:

  1. Upfront - add to your car finance agreement where it will be part of your car monthly instalments.
  2. Cash - pay the full price in cash.
  3. Monthly - pay on a monthly basis through debit order.

You are eligible for a Service Plan if, at the plan start date, your car:

  1. has travelled less than 250 000 km; and
  2. Is less than 10 years old (calculated from date of first registration).

Your Service Plan starts at the start date, as stated in the owner’s plan summary.

The contract months start on the date you buy the plan or at the end of the existing or manufacturer plan, whichever comes first.

Your Service Plan is not a fixed-term contract. It runs for a specific term (e.g. 3 years) or kilometres travelled (e.g. 45 000 km), whichever comes first.

It depends on the method you used to buy your plan:

Upfront and Cash - we will be provide benefits 20 business days after the Service Plan payment was made.

Monthly debit order - we will be provide benefits after 4 consecutive monthly payment.

The Roadside Assistance benefits will be available from your Service Plan start date.

Your Service Plan will automatically end when one of the following happen:

  1. • You reach the prescribed kilometres or term as stipulated in your plan summary;
  2. • You fail to service your car within the manufacturer’s specified service interval for the second consecutive time; or
  3. • Your car is damaged beyond repair or destroyed before the expiry of the Service Plan.

You can cancel your Service Plan at any time. You can do this by giving us at least 20 business days’ notice in writing, or by contacting our Customer Care Centre at customercare@motorhappy.co.za or phoning us on 0861 642 779.

Please note that the original manufacturer’s plan that came standard with your car, would not have been charged for and cannot be cancelled or refunded.

If you cancel your Service Plan before its start date and you have not made any claims on the plan, you will be entitled to a refund as set out in the plan booklet.

Please refer to the plan booklet for the terms and conditions that apply to refunds on cancellation of the plan.

MotorHappy can cancel your Service Plan within 20 business days after giving you written notice of a material failure to comply with the Service Plan requirements (unless you rectify the failure within the 20 business days).

If your Service Plan is fully paid up and you want to sell your car, you can transfer your Service Plan to the new owner. This Service Plan may only be transferred once and only by the original Service Plan holder. You must notify MotorHappy within 15 days of the transaction. If you don’t, you waive the right to cancel your Service Plan and we will assume that your Service Plan will be transferred to the new owner.

If you are unhappy with any aspect of your Service Plan and want to lodge a complaint, you can do so by sending us an email at customercare@motorhappy.co.za or phoning us on 0861 642 779.
