FAQs

A Service Plan pays for specified aspects of the recommended services of your car by an approved facility for a specific term or kilometers travelled, whichever comes first, in the Republic of South Africa. Filters, spark plugs and lubricants are normally covered by our car servicing providers. A Maintenance Plan pays for everything included in the Service Plan, plus the replacement, maintenance or repair of specific wear-and-tear parts, when necessary.

A Service Plan pays for the cost of servicing your car in line with the manufacturer’s specified guidelines.

You can buy a Service plan in the following ways:

  1. • Full upfront payment - pay the full price by credit card or EFT
  2. • Monthly - pay on a monthly basis through debit order.

You are eligible for a Service Plan if, at the plan start date, your car:

  1. • has travelled less than 250 000 km; and
  2. • Is less than 10 years old (calculated from date of first registration).

Your Service Plan starts at the start date, as stated in the owner’s plan summary. The contract months start on the date you buy the plan or at the end of the existing or manufacturer plan, whichever comes first.

Your Service Plan is not a fixed-term contract. It runs for a specific term (e.g. 3 years) or kilometres travelled (e.g. 45 000 km), whichever comes first.

It depends on the method you used to buy your plan:

  1. • Upfront (credit card & EFT) - we will be providing benefits 30 business days after the Service Plan payment was made.
  2. • Monthly debit order - we will be providing benefits after 4 consecutive monthly payments.

The Roadside Assistance benefits will be available from your Service Plan start date.

Your Service Plan will automatically end when one of the following happen:

  1. • You reach the prescribed kilometres or term as stipulated in your plan summary;
  2. • You fail to service your car within the manufacturer’s specified service interval for the second consecutive time; or
  3. • Your car is damaged beyond repair or destroyed before the expiry of the Service Plan.

You can cancel your Service Plan at any time. You can do this by giving us at least 20 business days’ notice in writing, or by contacting our Customer Care Centre at customercare@motorhappy.co.za or phoning us on 0861 642 779.

Please note that the original manufacturer’s plan that came standard with your car, would not have been charged for and cannot be cancelled or refunded.

If you cancel your Service Plan before its start date and you have not made any claims on the plan, you will be entitled to a refund as set out in the plan booklet.

Please refer to the plan booklet for the terms and conditions that apply to refunds on cancellation of the plan.

MotorHappy can cancel your Service Plan within 20 business days after giving you written notice of a material failure to comply with the Service Plan requirements (unless you rectify the failure within the 20 business days).

If your Service Plan is fully paid up and you want to sell your car, you can transfer your Service Plan to the new owner. This Service Plan may only be transferred once and only by the original Service Plan holder. You must notify MotorHappy within 15 days of the transaction. If you don’t, you waive the right to cancel your Service Plan and we will assume that your Service Plan will be transferred to the new owner.

If you are unhappy with any aspect of your Service Plan and want to lodge a complaint, you can do so by sending us an email at customercare@motorhappy.co.za or phoning us on 0861 642 779.

MotorHappy will suspend your Service Plan immediately if you fail to make a payment due in terms of your Service Plan agreement on the due date. You will not be entitled to any of the benefits offered in terms of this Service Plan until all outstanding payments are made to MotorHappy.

If MotorHappy does not receive your monthly payment, we will immediately stop the processing of your claim for benefits, until you make the payment.

Manufacturers require that you service your car after a specific number of kilometres (e.g. every 15 000 km) or at specific time interval. Some manufacturers will require that your car be serviced at specific terms (e.g. 12 months from date of first registration) even if you have not driven the specified number of kilometres. Refer to your owner’s manual for requirements.

It is your responsibility to avoid being in default or breach of the Service Plan agreement, as it will result in the termination of your Service Plan. A default or breach happens when you fail to meet material requirements of an agreement. In the case of a Service Plan, this includes:

  1. • Not servicing your car regularly and at the service intervals set out in your service manual.
  2. • Failing to comply with the instructions in the manufacturer’s manual relating to the use, care and maintenance of your car.

MotorHappy will pay for the replacement of a cambelt or accessory belt only if recommended by the manufacturer at a specific term. Tensioners and pulleys will only be replaced if specified by the manufacturer service schedule.

Yes. Your Roadside Assistance benefits will be available from the start date of your Service Plan.

If your car is involved in an accident, the Service Plan will continue to cover your car only if all resulting damage, whether mechanical, electrical, structural or body-related is repaired by an approved facility or an accredited panel beater. MotorHappy reserves the right to suspend your Service Plan if the workmanship or parts used do not meet the specific quality standards of your car’s importer or manufacturer. If your car is damaged beyond repair or destroyed before the expiry of the Service Plan, you must notify us within 30 days.
