Famous movie cars

7 cars almost as famous as the movies they starred in

All great movies have one thing in common, which is that they usually have more than one memorable character. In some movies though, one of the pivotal stars is a fast, classic or sports car that takes centre stage. Here are seven iconic movie cars:

DeLorean DMC-12 from the Back to the Future series

Time travel always makes for a fun element in movies. What makes it even more interesting is when the time machine is in the form of a car. Even though the DeLorean DMC-12 wasn't a great car to drive, it added that extra bit of zing to the element of time travel and etched its place forever in the minds of both car and movie fans.

Mini Cooper from The Italian Job

When you think of heist movies and a fast getaway car, the last vehicle you would think of is a Mini. However, it was the perfect for this movie - it was nimble and powerful enough to maneuveraround the tight corners and narrow streets of Europe, and was sexier and more convincing than any fast car or sports car.

The Batmobile from various Batman movies

We’ve been witness to multiple iterations of the Batman movies and each one comes with a different version of the Batmobile. Whichever movie you watch, and whatever Batmobile you consider, whether it’s the modified Chevy Impala from Tim Burton’s Batman or the custom-made Tumbler from the Chris Nolan series, you’ll always be looking at the coolest mode of transport for this superhero. Who needs superpowers when you can zoom around in one of these?

Dodge Charger from the Fast and Furious franchise

This is one movie franchise where cars are essential to the plot. With all the big beefy men around, the cars have to have an equal amount of presence and few cars can be up for this particular task like the Dodge Charger. It’s powerful, raw and untamed and is the only car that manages to stand head and shoulders above the multitude of fast cars featured across movies in this franchise. The fact that it comes with an emotional backstory only adds further character.

Aston Martin DB series in the James Bond movies

The Aston Martin and James Bond go hand in hand almost like the words ‘shaken and stirred’. The first of these legendary cars was the DB5 featured in Goldfinger and it immediately set James Bond apart from every other spy in the world of movies. These cars are beautiful to look at and a pleasure to drive… it’s easy to understand why they’re the only choice for James Bond.

1968 Mustang GT 390 from Bullitt

The Bullitt bought two icons together on the big screen - Steve McQueen and the Mustang. It was the perfect partnership. This Mustang was supposed to be a limited-edition car, following the movie, Ford launched it a second time, making it the first time a limited-edition car was given a second run.

Mercedes-Benz 280SE convertible from The Hangover

The first Hangover movie was a cultural phenomenon and came at a time when movies began to feel repetitive. The characters in this movie go through some of the most hilarious yet painful and somewhat dangerous situations people can go through, and so does their car, the 280SE convertible. The Merc doesn’t get nearly as much credit as it deserves, as some of the funniest scenes in the movie take place in or around this car. It takes a lot of beating and yet still comes out in working order, despite Bradley Cooper’s character kicking it to get the roof folded down.
