Meet the 2021 Ford Everest: an ever powerful, fully capable SUV

The 2021 Ford Everest is here to spice up competition for its biggest rival, the Toyota Fortuner. The 2021 seven-seater SUV is more tempting and upmarket than ever before, with stylish features and improved suspension. Furthermore, the Blue Oval has recently unveiled the advanced 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo and Single Turbo mills.

Ford offers the new Everest in four variants: base XLS, XLT, LTD, and range-topping Sport. In addition, making the seven-seater more desirable in its segment is the choice of four engines.

The entry-level XLS is powered by a 2.2-litre TDCI 4-cylinder diesel engine generating 118 kw and 385 Nm of torque, mating exclusively to a six-speed automatic transmission.

The XLT gives you two engine choices, i.e. a 2.0-litre Single Turbo 4-cylinder diesel and a 3.2-litre TDCI five-cylinder diesel. The former yields a healthy 132 kW and 420 Nm of torque, while the latter is the second most powerful option in the engine lineup. It pumps out 147 kW and 470 Nm of torque, channelled exclusively to all four wheels. The Single Turbo is available with both front-wheel and all-wheel-drive, offering strong performance lower down the rev range.

Furthermore, the Single Turbo exclusively mates to an efficient 10-speed automatic transmission, while the 3.2-litre TDCI is accessible exclusively with a 6-speed automatic.

The Everest LTD is available with the most powerful engine in the lineup. The innovative Bi-Turbo 4-cylinder Diesel produces 157 kW and 500 Nm of torque, mating to a state-of-the-art 10-speed automatic gearbox.

The last variant in the lineup is the sporty version of the XLT, the Everest Sport. It features the 2.0-litre Single Turbo mill that pairs with a 10-speed automatic, powering either the front or all the wheels.

The 2021 Ford Everest comes with a new grille design, featuring a layer of three unique grille bars, showing individuality and luxury while offering a sense of power and toughness. The lower bumper has an updated design as well, including an associated horizontal beam added to the fascia insert to give the seven-seater an even grander on-road manifestation.

Elegant new 20-inch wheels adorn the range-topping LTD, boasting an advanced split-spoke style rendering the SUV a more upscale and dynamic look. The base variant comes with 17-inch alloys.

The 2021 Ford Everest delivers supreme levels of quality, excellent interior capacity, and utmost versatility, offering an array of fresh, richer materials and styling features that highlight extravagance and panache throughout. The Ebony environment colour alters the whole interior atmosphere.

The 8” Colour Touch screen provides enhanced connectivity and is mainly equivalent to SYNC®3 with the exclusion of Navigation and Embedded Voice Recognition for the XLS. The system completely supports Android Auto and Apple Carplay. Other facilities comprise Applink, text-to-speech and Wi-Fi hotspot compatibility.

On the other hand, the XLT, LTD and Sport customers can enjoy complete SYNC 3 capability with a fully integrated voice activation system and satellite navigation system through a customizable 8-inch colour LCD capacitive touchscreen.

Other salient features include keyless entry & push start button, dual-panel (power) moonroof, terrain management system, pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection and FordPass Connect.

The pricing starts at R573,700 and tops out at R848,600. (Prices correct at time of publication.)
