Paint Tech Warranty

Loose stones, tar and inconsiderate drivers these are just a few of the hazards you face on the road. Let's be honest the road is not kind to your car's paint job. With a Paint Tech warranty your car will look as smooth as it runs.

This protects the exterior and interior of your car, keeping your car in showroom condition.

Scratches and scuffs to the car’s central console, only if damage is less than 150 mm wide and less than 1 mm deep.

Dashboard

A scuff or a scratch not exceeding 150 mm and less than 1 mm deep (excl. the airbag panel area).

Door handles

Only scratches or scuffs to plastic door grab handles will be re-sprayed. Chrome-plated and leather finished door handles are excluded.

Door panel plastic

Scratches or scuffs not exceeding 150 mm and less than 1 mm deep will be repaired and resprayed.

Gear lever boot

Scratches or scuffs not exceeding 150 mm and less than 1 mm deep will be repaired and resprayed.

Gear knob

Only for restoring faded paint.

Handbrake boot

Tears or rips to the boot, but only if less than 50 mm.

Head rest

Repairs to the cover not exceeding 50 mm. If the exact fabric not available, a suitable replacement fabric will be used. The benefit does not apply to guides and frames.

Parcel shelf and strings

To maintain and restore a damaged shelf only. Excludes broken frame.

Plastic panel repair

A scuff not exceeding 150 mm and less than 1 mm deep. The benefit does not apply if panel is broken or cracked.

Roof lining

Limited to one maintenance or restoration event per plan. If the existing roof lining becomes loose or starts to hang, it will only be repaired where possible. Replacement of the roof lining is excluded. The benefit does not apply to convertibles or vehicles with sunroofs.

Rubber carpet inserts

Applies only to the rubber heel mat on driver’s side. If damaged, the driver side heel mat will be restored. Loose mats and carpets are excluded.

Seat panel

For tears not exceeding 50 mm and burn holes not exceeding 10 mm. If the exact fabric is not available, a suitable replacement fabric will be used.

Seat stitch

Where damage is repairable to seat stitches not exceeding 75 mm.

Steering wheel respray

Re-spraying of leather steering wheels, but excludes re-covering of steering wheels.

Sun visors

Repairs to damaged sun visors.

Safety film

If your car is fitted with safety film, the benefit provides maintenance and restoration for scratches, scuffs and tears caused by a sharp object or similar type damage only.

Paint Tech provides you with repair and maintenance solutions for minor car damage to help keep your car looking like new, maintain its value and make it easier to sell. Paint Tech consists of Auto Body Insurance (covers defined insurance events as per the policy information document) and Auto Body Warranty (covers day-to-day safety and aesthetic car maintenance, as per the policy information document.

If your car’s windscreen suffers repairable damage due to impact on the windscreen surface, we will cover the cost of the repair. If the windscreen cracks during the repair process, the replacement cost of the windscreen will be for your own account or it can be claimed from your comprehensive car insurance. This benefit includes repairable damage to headlamps and related glass components.

If your car is damaged by hail and can be successfully repaired by an accredited dent remover or recognised dent removal process for hail damage restoration, we will pay a maximum indemnity dependent on the Option Plan selected, per 12-month period of cover.

If your car’s wheel rims or mag wheels are damaged and are repairable, we will pay for the repairs to the damage up to a maximum amount dependent on the Option Plan selected, per 12-month period of cover (one claim per year). This amount will not be paid towards an excess on a comprehensive car claim.

We will pay for repairs to “minor dents” to your vehicle that do not exceed 15 cm in diameter, dependent on the Option Plan selected. Where any part of the body panel has been ripped or torn, the damage is not considered a dent and is for your account.

We will pay for repairs to car bodywork scratches if they do not exceed 15 cm in length or diameter and do not extend over more than two body parts, up to a maximum amount dependent on the Option Plan selected.

We will cover taxis up to a maximum of R2,000 for any one repair and up to R8,000 in the aggregate for any 1 year of insurance. Only the Bronze Plan is available for taxis. You will be responsible for the first R250 of each and every incident giving rise to a claim under each of the events defined in the policy information document, except in the case of windscreen damage, where no excess is applicable.

The period of the policy can be either 24 or 48 months, depending on the period selected on the application.

You are eligible for Paint Tech if:

  • Your car’s gross vehicle mass does not exceed 3 500 kg
  • Your taxi’s gross vehicle mass does not exceed 8 700 kg

Cars used for any of the following purposes are excluded:

  • Racing and rallies
  • Hiring
  • Carrying of explosives or trade goods for business purposes,
  • Driving instruction for reward
  • If the car is in the custody of the motor trade other than for the purpose of its overhaul, upkeep or repair

You can start receiving Paint Tech benefits 30 days after purchase of the plan. You will be covered for the full period you selected, as long as your payments are up to date. If you pay monthly, cover will start a month after we have received the first payment and will run as long as the monthly amount for the insurance and maintenance has been paid by you.

An accident is a single event in which your car sustains minor scratches or dents. All damages arising from the occurrence must be claimed for simultaneously as damages that have accumulated over time and are due to separate incidents will not be covered.

You can cancel your Paint Tech plan at any time by notifying us. Remember the following:

  • We will refund you the unused part of your premium, if you didn’t claim.
  • Any charges, commission, inspection fees and any other fees (such as binder fees) that were incurred at the inception of the policy will not be refunded.
  • A 30-day cooling off period will apply to this policy. The cooling off period does not apply if you have claimed against the policy.

MotorHappy can cancel your Paint Tech plan if you are in breach of the agreement or change your policy by giving you 30 days’ notice. We may give you notice in writing by electronic mail, fax or by post to your last known address.

If your car is stolen, hijacked and not recovered or damaged beyond repair during the period of this policy, the policy will terminate automatically. You will be entitled to a pro rata refund of any payments made by you in advance as at that date, provided that no claims have been paid.

Should you sell your car, the unexpired portion of this policy can be transferred to the new owner, subject to our written approval and provided that the terms and conditions of the policy have been complied with. You must apply, in writing, providing full details of the new owner of the car. Policy transfer is only permissible during the first year of the original policy.

  • If the car is a taxi, you will be responsible for the excess as stipulated in the policy information document.
  • You must notify us of a claim within 30 days of the incident.
  • You must complete a quality acceptance form on completion of the repair or restoration work.

You must:

  • Take all reasonable steps to maintain your car’s bodywork.
  • Obtain authorisation from us prior to taking the car for repairs.
  • Only take the vehicle to an approved repairer, when authorised.
  • Avoid making yourself guilty of misrepresentation, misdescription or nondisclosure of any material fact.
  • Allow us to inspect the car that is the subject of the repair.
  • Pay your premium on time on the due date.

If you have selected the Bronze Plan, the maximum amount for your Option Plan is R1,000. If the total cost of repairs is more than R1,000, but not more than R1,500, we will pay up to the maximum amount of R1,000 and you can pay the extra R500 to the repairer. Any claim exceeding R1,500 will not be considered as a claim under the warranty section.

If you have selected the Gold Plan, the maximum amount for your Option Plan is R1,500. If the total cost of repairs is more than R1,500 but not more than R2,250, we will pay up to the maximum amount of R1,500 and you can pay the extra R750 to the repairer. Any claim exceeding R2,250 will not be considered as a claim under the warranty section.

If you have selected the Platinum Plan, the maximum amount for your Option Plan is R2,000. If the total cost of repairs is more than R2,000 but not more than R3,000, we will pay up to the maximum amount of R2,000 and you can pay the extra R1,000 to the repairer. Any claim exceeding R3,000 will not be considered as a claim under the warranty section.

You are entitled to the maximum Option Plan amount which you have selected in your application and as shown in your schedule.

Paint Tech provides for the restoration of the paintwork damaged as a result of general wear- and-tear arising from day-to-day driving. This is limited to:

  • Chips that are repairable by means of brush-touched techniques
  • Dents not exceeding 3 cm in diameter and are repairable by means of paintless dent removal techniques
  • Scratches that can be concealed by means of brush touch up
  • Tar removal

Paint Tech covers the following in terms of your car’s interior:

  • Centre console: Scratches and scuffs to the car’s central console, only if damage is less than 150 mm wide and less than 1 mm deep. Dashboard: A scuff or a scratch not exceeding 150 mm and less than 1 mm deep (excl. the airbag panel area).

  • Safety film: If your car is fitted with safety film, the benefit provides maintenance and restoration for scratches, scuffs and tears caused by a sharp object or similar type damage only.

This benefit is a joint benefit and must be redeemed together. You are entitled to receive 1 car inspection and 1 wheel alignment service per 12-month period of cover. Monthly agreement clients will only be entitled to the inspection after 6 months. The wheel alignment benefit includes only adjustable setting in respect of front and rear toe, camber and castor adjustment to manufacturer standards.

Auto Body Insurance excludes:

  • Any damage falling outside the period of cover.
  • Any legal liability whatsoever to any third party.
  • Any consequential loss from any cause whatsoever, or any contractual liability which you may suffer or for which you may become liable.
  • Mechanical or electrical breakdowns or breakages.
  • Racing, rallies, hiring, carrying of explosives or trade goods for business purposes, driving instruction for reward, or if the vehicle is in the custody of the motor trade other than for the purpose of its overhaul, upkeep or repair.
  • Any loss or damage to third party property or death or bodily injury to passengers or third parties.
  • Any loss, damage or liability caused by civil commotion, riot, strike, war, mutiny, military rising, martial law, rebellion, revolution, any act in protest against any State, Government or any government body, or any nuclear or radioactive material.
  • Repairs requiring stripping or assembly of parts or bodywork as that is not considered to be “minor dents or scratches” and any repairs exceeding 15 cm in length or diameter will not be covered.
  • Repairs to the vehicle that have not started within 90 days of the authorisation of the claim.
  • Any unauthorised repair work completed by the repairer. You will be responsible for the payment of any unauthorised repair work that was completed by the repairer.
  • Fraudulent Claims: Any claim under this agreement, which is in any way fraudulent or materially inaccurate is excluded. In such circumstances all payments made shall be forfeited.

Auto Body Warranty excludes:

  • Any damage that is not defined under “Defined Events” in your policy information document.
  • Any damage falling outside the time limits of the period of this agreement.
  • Any damage exceeding the maximum repair limit as defined.
  • Any damage resulting in the replacement of any body panel or part thereof.
  • Any damage involving accessories, door mouldings, window mouldings, beading, lamps of any sort or any window panel.
  • Damage to car radios, sound equipment or car telephones.
  • Any loss or damage to tyres.
  • Any loss or damage to third party property or death of or injury to passengers or third parties.
  • Any pre-existing damage, including rusting or any gradually developing cause.
  • Any depreciation in value arising from repairs or restoration.
  • Any repairs or services outside the Republic of South Africa.
  • Re-gassing, servicing and repairs to the air-conditioner.
  • Repairs requiring stripping or assembly of parts or bodywork as that is not considered to be “minor dents or scratches” and will not be covered.
  • Repairs to the vehicle that have not started within 90 days of the authorisation of the claim. Any unauthorised repair work completed by the repairer. You will be responsible for the payment of any unauthorised repair work that was completed by the repairer.
  • Fraudulent claims: Any claim under this agreement, which is in any way fraudulent or materially inaccurate is excluded. In such circumstances all payments made shall be forfeited.
