Understanding your Extended Warranty: What’s not covered

An Extended Warranty can provide invaluable peace of mind. You can drive your older car with ease, knowing that you’re covered for any major mechanical breakdowns. However, like any contract, it’s essential to know what is and what is not covered by the Extended Warranty.

An Extended Warranty covers a mechanical breakdown or electrical failure, however there are some exclusions. Keep reading to find out more.

  • Consequential or indirect loss or damage: Unfortunately, not all damages are directly covered. Consequential or indirect losses of any kind may not be included in your Extended Warranty.
  • Pre-existing Issues: Components that were already broken or malfunctioning before the warranty came into effect typically won't be covered. It's essential to thoroughly inspect your vehicle before purchasing an Extended Warranty.
  • Unauthorised repairs: Any repairs not approved by the warranty provider may not be covered. Always seek authorisation before proceeding with repairs.
  • Odometer issues: If your odometer isn't functioning correctly or has been tampered with without proper approval, resulting damages may not be covered.
  • Specific damage causes: Damage caused by factors such as oil leaks, incorrect fuel usage, or accidents may not fall under the Extended Warranty coverage.
  • Manufacturer's warranty: Components still under the manufacturer's or supplier's warranty at the time of breakdown may not be covered by the Extended Warranty.
  • Service and maintenance items: Routine service items like oil, filters, and spark plugs usually aren't covered. These are considered regular maintenance costs. (A Service Plan through MotorHappy covers all scheduled car services. Click here to find out more.)
  • Insurance reimbursement: Costs that can be reclaimed through motor insurance policies may not be covered by the Extended Warranty.
  • Nuclear risks and war: Extreme circumstances such as nuclear risks, war, or public disorder are typically excluded from coverage.

Understanding what isn't covered by your Extended Warranty is just as crucial as knowing what is. By familiarising yourself with these exclusions, you can make informed decisions about your vehicle's maintenance and avoid unexpected expenses.
